Why is this show important?

Stories about African children tend to focus on suffering and victimisation, but we want to represent the joys of our childhood living in Kenya.
In 2021, we pitched the show to the Kenya Film Commission - a Kenyan State Agency tasked with supporting the local film industry - and received a production grant of 30,000 dollars. The show began pre-production on 31st August 2021. Since then, 6 animatics have been completed, and two episodes, 'SHOELACE' and 'MIWANI', are now in the animation stage. The remaining episodes are scheduled for completion in 2023. We are currently looking to acquire finishing funds for these two episodes.
The show celebrates the imagination and positivity of children through our loveable, goofy and adventurous protagonist. We believe that this show will be enjoyed by kids and adults from all over the world.

Why have we come to Kickstarter?

Animation is complex, and it is more challenging when you are an independent company in a country with a young animation industry. However, we are ambitious, and we believe that we can make an incredible show with the proper support. Kickstarter was our first choice because it allows us to stay independent while developing a community of key supporters.

BOI

Main Character

He's 6. He likes to play and loves to hang out with his family and friends. He's a ball of energy; he skips, slides or runs everywhere. He has an overactive imagination, and sometimes the crazy things in his mind come into real life!

Fun Fact? BOI is the Kenyan colloquial term for 'BOY.'

CHEMU

/'che.moo/

Chemu (6) is Boi's best friend and neighbour. Every afternoon after school, the two of them play together for hours. Chemu is calm and considerate. She's a nature lover, and you'll often find her in the garden looking for her favourite insects like ants, ladybugs and spiders!

BABA

/Ba.baa/

He is Boi's father. He's calm and patient, which is great because Boi can be a handful. He is a quietly imposing figure, but he cares deeply for his young son. Every day after work, Baba will play with Boi in the garden.

AUNTY KUI

/'Ko,iii/

Aunty Kui (26) is Baba's younger sister and Boi's aunt. She's a child in a grown-up's body, which is why Boi loves her. She's not afraid to climb avocado trees and she's known to make loud weird animal noises to entertain Boi.

(That's Swahili for Thank you)

Thanks a million times over... NO... thanks a BILLION times over! We’re so excited to bring you on this amazing journey!

RISKS AND CHALLENGES

The main risk is Boi's imagination running wild...but seriously...

A production has many moving parts, and we are determined to produce the best quality that we can. This isn't easy and takes time. There may be some delays in our quest for the best quality as we troubleshoot some problems and seek to get the best people, but WE CAN DO IT. This is a challenge, but we can anticipate it and start to mitigate these problems.
